Big Five Marathon
19 June 2021

The wildest of them all

The Big Five Marathon is an exclusive event that combines a challenging marathon experience with a classic African safari vacation.

The Big Five Marathon in South Africa is held among the wildlife of the African savannah. Runners from all over the world will meet in one of the most spectacular Big Five game reserves in Africa.

In these magnificent surroundings, we combine exciting game drives with a challenging marathon route going right through the habitat of the most famous African game: Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Lion and Leopard.

No fences, no rivers, nothing at all separates the runners from the African wildlife!

Legend Safari Resort, Ravineside Lodge & Wildside Tented Camp open for bookings.

Considering the current situation regarding COVID-19, we will unfortunately have to postpone the Big Five Marathon due to take place on June 20th 2020 to next year. The marathon will now take place on June 19th 2021 instead. We understand this news may come as a disappointment, but we hope you can understand that it is a decision that has not been taken lightly.

We will of course also have the Big Five Marathon 2021 also taking place next year, dates are still to be confirmed and will be on sale later this year.

Despite the circumstances, we are very excited to be holding two Big Five Marathon events in 2021. We hope to see you all in South Africa next year!

As the current situation regarding COVID-19 is constantly changing, we hope to give our runners some peace of mind by offering a full refund on all cancellations made by the 31st of December 2020, this includes all 2021 races.
